Early summer is the right moment for decks and fences, while the wood is dry enough to take a cleaning without staying damp for days. Autumn belongs to gutters, after the oaks and maples have finished dropping. Winter is for planning rather than washing.

Rinse salt off north-facing walls after coastal storms. Keep sprinklers from spraying siding all summer, which is what causes those green stripes. Trim shrubs back a few inches from the wall so air can move. None of this replaces a proper clean, but it slows the regrowth considerably.
